About the Role
Looking for a strong SQL developer who can also work across the Microsoft stack. 80% of work will be deep in MS SQL Server – writing, tuning, debugging complex queries. The other 20% maintain/enhance legacy ASP/VB.NET apps and build new features in C# + JavaScript.
Key Responsibilities
SQL Server Development - Primary - 80%
Write, optimize, and debug complex T-SQL stored procedures, functions, views, triggers
Tune slow queries using Execution Plans, Indexes, DMVs. Handle tables with 10M+ rows
Design database tables, relationships, and constraints for new modules
Data migration, cleansing, and bulk operations using SSIS packages
Troubleshoot deadlocks, blocking, timeouts, and performance issues in production
Application Development - Secondary - 20%
Maintain and enhance existing Classic ASP / http://VB.NET / VB6 web applications
Develop new features in C# .NET Framework/.NET Core with ADO.NET/Entity Framework
Create/modify SSRS reports – datasets, parameters, subscriptions, drill-down reports
Build UI screens using HTML, CSS, JavaScript, jQuery. Handle AJAX calls to backend
Fix bugs across the stack – from SQL proc to JS front-end
Support & Collaboration
Work with BAs to translate business requirements into SQL queries + reports
Deploy DB objects and code via SQL scripts + TFS/Azure DevOps/Git
Support UAT, provide data extracts, and resolve production data issues
Document stored procs, table schemas, and report logic
Must-Have Skills
Strong SQL Knowledge
3+ years hands-on with MS SQL Server 2014+
Advanced T-SQL: Joins, CTEs, window functions, temp tables, dynamic SQL, error handling
Performance: Can read execution plans, create covering indexes, avoid cursors, reduce scans
SSIS/SSRS: Built/modified packages and paginated reports. Know SQL Agent jobs
DB Objects: Comfortable with all CRUD operations, schema design, constraints, transactions
Moderate Application Skills
Classic ASP / VB / http://VB.NET: Can read legacy code, fix bugs, add small features. No need to architect
C# .NET: Write console apps, APIs, or web forms. Understand OOP, ADO.NET, basic LINQ
JavaScript/jQuery: DOM manipulation, AJAX calls, form validations, JSON handling
HTML/CSS: Create tables, forms, basic responsive layouts
Tools: Visual Studio, SSMS, IIS basics, TFS/Git for version control
