Location: Primarily Remote (Occasional onsite meetings in Buffalo, NY/WNY area as needed)
Duration: 3 Months Contract (Immediate Start)

About the Project

Enterprise Data Warehouse (MEDW) platform from a legacy single-server environment to a modern four-VM virtualized architecture. This engagement requires a hands-on technical consultant who can lead migration activities while also managing project governance, reporting, and stakeholder coordination.

Responsibilities

• Lead installation, configuration, and migration activities across four virtual machines:
  • SQL Server (VM1)
  • SSRS (VM2)
  • SQL Server Master Data Services (MDS) (VM3)
  • Talend ETL (VM4)
• Execute and support cutover activities following a structured migration plan.
• Perform SQL Server installation, configuration, patching, and migration tasks.
• Install and configure SQL Server Master Data Services (MDS) and validate endpoints.
• Configure and validate SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), including report rendering and subscriptions.
• Support Talend ETL deployment, repository configuration, runtime standards, and job scheduling.
• Manage Active Directory security group migration and role-based access controls.
• Validate backup, restore, encryption key management, and disaster recovery readiness.
• Develop migration runbooks, operational documentation, and DR procedures.
• Coordinate with infrastructure, database, backup, and security teams throughout the migration.
• Track project progress, risks, issues, and dependencies.
• Provide weekly budget utilization and status reporting to project leadership.
• Support hypercare activities and post-migration stabilization.

Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of hands-on SQL Server Administration experience.
• Strong experience with SQL Server migration, installation, configuration, and patching.
• Experience migrating physical or legacy environments to VMware or Hyper-V virtualized infrastructures.
• Hands-on experience with SQL Server Master Data Services (MDS).
• Experience administering and supporting SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS).
• Familiarity with Talend ETL platform administration and migration activities.
• Experience with Active Directory security groups, permissions, and role-based access controls.
• Strong understanding of backup/recovery strategies and disaster recovery planning.
• Experience developing cutover plans, migration runbooks, and validation procedures.
• Ability to work independently in a client-facing consulting environment.
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Experience with project tracking, budget reporting, risk management, and executive status updates.

Preferred Qualifications

• Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) migration experience.
• Experience supporting manufacturing, aerospace, or defense industry clients.
• Microsoft SQL Server certifications (MCSA, MCSE, Azure Database Administrator, or equivalent).
• Experience leading complex migration cutovers and hypercare activities.
• Experience coordinating multiple technical teams during migration projects.
