We are seeking an experienced SQL Server Database Administrator to support and scale a high-volume production environment. This role will take ownership of database administration, hosting, and performance optimization, with a strong focus on backend scalability and troubleshooting. The position is critical as the current DBA prepares for retirement, offering an opportunity for long-term ownership and continuity.
This is a hands-on DBA role, not an architect position, requiring deep technical expertise in SQL Server administration and performance tuning.
Key Responsibilities
Administer, maintain, and support Microsoft SQL Server databases in production and non-production environments
Monitor and optimize database performance in a high-traffic environment handling millions of transactions per hour
Identify and resolve blocking, deadlocks, slow queries, and resource contention
Manage database hosting, capacity planning, and performance scaling
Support application teams by diagnosing backend performance issues and tuning database interactions
Implement and maintain backup, recovery, high availability, and disaster recovery strategies
Ensure database security, reliability, and operational best practices
Participate in knowledge transfer and documentation as part of DBA succession planning
Required Qualifications
5 10+ years of hands-on experience as a SQL Server DBA
Strong expertise with Microsoft SQL Server administration and performance tuning
Proven experience troubleshooting blocking, concurrency issues, and high-load systems
Solid understanding of backend application performance and database interactions
Experience managing production environments with high transaction volumes
Ability to work independently while collaborating with application and infrastructure teams
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
