Job Description: We are seeking a Sr. Database Developer with strong expertise in MySQL Aurora, AWS, and MongoDB. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience designing, optimizing, and scaling databases in cloud environments, while collaborating closely with development teams and production DBAs to ensure high availability, performance, and reliability.
Base pay range: CA$70.00/hr - CA$90.00/hr
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain MySQL Aurora databases in AWS environments.
- Manage and optimize AWS RDS instances, ensuring security, scalability, and cost efficiency.
- Work with EKS (Kubernetes) for database deployments and orchestration.
- Collaborate with development teams to design efficient data models and queries.
- Manage version control of database schemas and scripts using GitHub and Flyway.
- Support developers with high-performance MongoDB design and implementation for demanding workloads.
- Monitor database performance using AWS and Datadog, and proactively resolve bottlenecks.
- Ensure data integrity, security, and compliance with industry best practices.
Required Skills & Experience
- 7+ years of experience with MySQL architecture and development.
- 3+ years of experience with AWS RDS and/or Aurora.
- 2+ years of experience with MongoDB.
- 1+ year of experience with EKS, GitHub, and Datadog.
- Proven experience as a Development DBA in fast-paced environments.
- Hands-on experience with EKS (Kubernetes) and containerized deployments.
- Familiarity with GitHub CI/CD workflows.
- Extensive experience with MongoDB architecture, design, and optimization.
- Proficiency in database performance tuning, troubleshooting, and query optimization.
- Strong understanding of cloud security, scalability, and automation.
- Familiarity with the full software development life cycle (SDLC).
- Strong communication and collaboration skills in cross-functional teams.
- Experience in database security, disaster recovery (DR) design, and data migration between environments and across different RDBMS platforms.
Nice to Have
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation).
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines for database changes.
- Experience with automated monitoring, self-healing systems, and container orchestration (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker).
- Exposure to additional AWS services (e.g., Lambda, CloudWatch, IAM).
