Primary Responsibilities:
Lead the architecture, design, development, and maintenance of scalable eCommerce solutions built on Magento Open Source and Adobe Commerce.
Design, build, test, and maintain custom Magento modules, extensions, integrations, and platform customizations.
Develop functionality supporting payments, checkout, order management, product catalogs, customer accounts, inventory, promotions, reporting, and other business-critical capabilities.
Design and maintain secure and reliable REST and GraphQL APIs, webhooks, asynchronous processes, and integrations with third-party platforms.
Develop and optimize payment-processing integrations, including Stripe, Stripe Connect, and other payment gateways or financial-services platforms.
Lead Magento version upgrades, security patching, PHP and dependency updates, compatibility testing, and remediation of deprecated functionality.
Perform advanced debugging, troubleshooting, profiling, and root-cause analysis across application, database, caching, infrastructure, and integration layers.
Optimize application performance across PHP execution, MySQL queries, indexing, caching, search, queues, APIs, and frontend delivery.
Establish and promote PHP and Magento coding standards, secure development practices, code-review processes, and automated testing expectations.
Identify opportunities to reduce technical debt, simplify complex systems, and improve the reliability and maintainability of the platform.
Maintain technical documentation covering platform architecture, custom modules, APIs, integrations, data models, deployment processes, and operational procedures.
Partner with Product, Engineering, Operations, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into technical plans, estimates, and deliverables.
Mentor developers through code reviews, technical coaching, pair programming, and knowledge sharing.
Evaluate emerging technologies and tools that can modernize legacy components and improve development workflows.
Skills & Competencies:
Deep knowledge of Magento 2, Magento Open Source, Adobe Commerce, and modern Magento architecture.
Advanced knowledge of PHP, MySQL, Redis or Valkey, GraphQL, REST APIs, and Magento frameworks.
Strong understanding of dependency injection, plugins, observers, service contracts, repositories, cron jobs, message queues, caching, and indexing.
Ability to design secure, scalable, reliable, and maintainable software applications and integrations.
Advanced debugging, troubleshooting, performance-optimization, and root-cause-analysis skills.
Strong understanding of software architecture, design patterns, automated testing, secure coding, and code-quality standards.
Ability to evaluate technical tradeoffs and communicate technical recommendations to both technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
Strong organization, judgment, ownership, and problem-solving capabilities.
Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across Product, Engineering, Operations, and business teams.
Ability to mentor other developers and promote engineering best practices and continuous learning.
Minimum Qualifications:
Ten or more years of professional Magento development experience, with significant experience supporting Magento 2 and modern platform architecture.

Demonstrated experience building and maintaining complex custom Magento modules, extensions, integrations, and platform customizations in production.
Substantial experience developing Magento payment modules and integrating third-party payment gateways or financial-technology platforms.
Experience operating and optimizing high-availability SaaS or eCommerce applications.
Experience leading Magento upgrades, security patching, dependency updates, and compatibility testing within heavily customized environments.
Experience troubleshooting complex production issues across application, database, caching, infrastructure, and third-party integration layers.
Demonstrated experience leading technical projects, conducting code and architecture reviews, and mentoring software developers.
