Engineering at Innovaccer
With every line of code, we accelerate our customers' success, turning complex challenges into innovative solutions. Collaboratively, we transform each data point we gather into valuable insights for our customers. Join us and be part of a team that's turning dreams of better healthcare into reality, one line of code at a time. Together, we're shaping the future and making a meaningful impact on the world.
About the Role
We're looking for a Staff Engineer — Healthcare Interoperability to lead the architecture, development, and evolution of the interoperability platform that powers secure healthcare data exchange across our products.
You'll own mission-critical integrations connecting EMR/EHR systems, practice management platforms, laboratories, payers, and external partners, while shaping the long-term technical strategy for interoperability. This is a high-impact, hands-on engineering role for someone who combines deep expertise in healthcare interoperability with strong software engineering fundamentals and architectural leadership — designing modern integration solutions using standards like HL7 v2, FHIR, CDA/CCDA, and X12/EDI, and working with integration engines such as Rhapsody, Mirth Connect, Cloverleaf, or Corepoint.
Beyond implementation, you'll establish technical direction, drive engineering excellence, improve platform reliability, mentor engineers, and partner closely with Product, Implementation, R&D, QA, and Customer Success to deliver solutions that are secure, scalable, and maintainable — building highly available integration services that process large volumes of healthcare transactions without compromising reliability, security, or regulatory compliance.
A Day in the Life
Technical Leadership & Architecture
Own the architecture, design, and evolution of complex interoperability solutions spanning multiple healthcare systems.
Design scalable, loosely coupled, cloud-native integration architectures built for high transaction volumes.
Lead architecture reviews and technical design discussions, and set engineering standards and best practices across teams.
Drive technical decisions that balance immediate business priorities with the platform's long-term evolution.
Evaluate emerging interoperability standards, drive modernization of legacy integrations toward API-first and event-driven patterns, and look for ways to simplify architecture and cut technical debt.
Software Engineering
Build and maintain healthcare interfaces across HL7 v2, FHIR, CDA/CCDA, X12/EDI, REST, and SOAP, using Python, Go, Java, or similar.
Develop reusable integration frameworks, shared libraries, and developer tooling that raise the whole team's velocity.
Write maintainable, well-tested, well-documented code, and review complex designs to steer engineers toward robust, scalable solutions.
Reliability, Security & Operations
Own production reliability for critical integrations — retry mechanisms, idempotent processing, monitoring, alerting, auditing, and error recovery for workflows that can't fail quietly.
Lead incident investigations and root-cause analysis, drive long-term corrective action, and take part in on-call for critical services.
Build with HIPAA and PHI handling front of mind — encryption, authentication, authorization, and audit trails aren't an afterthought.
Define and track SLIs/SLOs for critical integration services, and optimize infrastructure for performance, cost, and disaster recovery.
Collaboration & Mentorship
Mentor engineers through architecture reviews, design reviews, code reviews, and pairing.
Act as a trusted technical partner for Product, R&D, Implementation, QA, and Customer Success — turning complex requirements into solutions that ship.
Champion good engineering habits — automated testing, CI/CD, observability, documentation — and build cross-team alignment through influence rather than authority.
What success looks like in your first 6–12 months: you're owning technical delivery on critical interoperability initiatives end to end, you've measurably improved reliability, observability, and scalability across integration services, you've set standards and reusable frameworks the team builds on, incident detection and recovery have gotten faster, and Product/R&D/Implementation/QA/Customer Success see you as the go-to person for interoperability strategy and execution.
What You Need
Must-Haves
8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with significant time spent building enterprise integration or healthcare interoperability solutions.
Deep, hands-on expertise with HL7 v2, FHIR, CDA/CCDA, X12/EDI, and healthcare messaging workflows.
Hands-on experience with integration engines such as Rhapsody, Mirth Connect, Cloverleaf, Corepoint, or comparable platforms.
Strong backend engineering skills in Python, Go, or Java.
Strong experience with SQL and relational databases — query optimization, stored procedures, data modeling, and ETL.
Experience building and operating cloud-native applications on AWS (preferred), Azure, or GCP.
Experience designing resilient distributed systems — messaging, async processing, fault tolerance, retries, idempotency, and high-availability patterns.
Strong grounding in software architecture, design patterns, scalability, observability, and system reliability.
Experience with CI/CD, Git-based workflows, automated testing, Infrastructure as Code, and DevOps practices.
A demonstrated track record of leading architecture discussions, mentoring engineers, and driving engineering excellence across teams.
Excellent communication skills — able to explain complex technical tradeoffs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Experience working in Agile environments (Scrum or Kanban).
Good to Have
Experience integrating with EMR/EHR or Practice Management systems (Allscripts, NextGen, Epic, athenahealth, eClinicalWorks, Oracle Health/Cerner, or similar).
Experience with event-driven architectures and messaging technologies like Apache Kafka.
Familiarity with observability platforms such as New Relic, KFuse, Datadog, or Splunk.
Experience with containerization and orchestration — Docker, Kubernetes.
Familiarity with US healthcare workflows, HIPAA regulations, CMS requirements, and payer-provider integrations.

About Innovaccer
Innovaccer builds software that helps hospitals, clinics, and health insurance companies make sense of all the scattered data they deal with every day — patient records, appointments, insurance claims, lab results — and turns it into something useful and actionable.
Think of a typical hospital: patient information often lives in a dozen different systems that don't talk to each other well. This causes delays in scheduling, slows down doctors, and makes it harder to catch health problems early. Innovaccer's platform connects all of that data together, and increasingly, uses AI "agents" to actually do some of the manual work for healthcare teams — things like scheduling appointments, preparing insurance paperwork, or drafting clinical notes — so that staff can spend more time with patients and less time on admin work.
Some of the largest healthcare systems in the US — including CommonSpirit Health, Atlantic Health, and Banner Health — use Innovaccer's platform today.
The company is also investing heavily in this direction: in June 2026, Innovaccer signed a multi-year partnership with AWS to run its AI agents at a much larger scale, using AWS's cloud AI tools (Amazon Bedrock) and healthcare-specific data infrastructure (AWS HealthLake). This is a strong signal of where the platform — and this engineering team — is headed next.
