Airbus Helicopters, a division of Airbus, is a global leader in the civil and military rotorcraft market. Its mission is to provide civil and military helicopter solutions to its customers who serve and protect citizens, save lives and safely carry passengers in highly demanding environments. Airbus Helicopters masters the complete helicopter value chain, from design and development, to industrialisation, production and support and services. It aims to ensure safety, quality, competitiveness and mission availability.
Airbus Helicopters España S.A. (AHE) integrates the rotorcraft activities in Spain and is a key integrated company within the Spanish rotorcraft industry. EBSTIF performs Design and Stress activities through all phases of the product life‑cycle, from specification to in‑service support: conceptual and detail design; support to production (non‑conformity assessment, generation of manufacturing documentation, etc.); support to testing; generation of evidence for certification and qualification; and customer support.
We are seeking a Structural Simulation Engineer to join our dynamic team to perform advanced Research & Technology (R&T) activities in the conceptual phases of product and technology development. In this role, you will bridge the gap between advanced structural mechanics and data science, developing next‑generation methodologies for composite, metallic, and thermoplastic structures. You will perform highly specialised FEA/FEM simulation activities and lead the digital transformation of our structural department by implementing Python programming to automate, accelerate and simplify calculation methods.
Core Competencies
An innovative mindset and a natural curiosity about new technology
The ability to challenge and improve traditional stress and structural calculation processes and propose disruptive solutions
A real affinity for digital topics and a hands‑on approach to advanced simulation and coding toolsets
Deep understanding of advanced structural mechanics, non‑linear structural behaviour, vibrations/dynamics and failure modes
Expertise in high‑velocity dynamics, impact physics, and damage tolerance
Strong programming and automation skills (Python)
High tolerance for ambiguity: ability to work with open‑ended problems and undefined requirements typical of early‑stage research
Proactive in identifying emerging industry trends (AI, advanced materials)
Very good communication and presentation skills to lead discussions on issues, simulation results, innovative ideas and status of work
Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment with changing priorities and requirements
Rigor, analytical thinking and high organisational skills
Key Responsibilities
Perform complex linear, non‑linear (material, geometric and contact) and dynamic structural simulations using the Altair HyperWorks suite (HyperMesh, HyperCrash, HyperGraph)
Lead highly specialised simulation tasks including ballistic impact, bird strike analysis and transient dynamic events using RADIOSS
Conduct advanced dynamic analysis, including modal, harmonic and random vibration simulations (frequency response analysis) to ensure structural integrity under dynamic environments using OptiStruct / RADIOSS
Design and execute model correlation workflows to match FEM simulation results with physical test data (e.g. coupon tests, vibration tests and impact tests), updating and validating the FE models for certification
Conduct structural analysis for crack growth propagation in both composite and metallic structures and simulate specialised joints, specifically thermoplastic welded joints
Develop, optimise and maintain automated workflows, pre and post‑processing scripts and analytical calculation tools using Python
Collaborate closely with all stakeholders (design, testing, manufacturing engineering, and quality) to ensure structural compliance and certification readiness
Identify and support local improvement initiatives to increase team efficiency through process, methods and tools improvements
Qualifications
Master’s degree in Aeronautical, Aerospace, Mechanical, Industrial Engineering or a related discipline with a strong focus on structural mechanics and computational methods
Minimum 5–8 years of proven experience in advanced structural simulation (FEM) using Altair HyperWorks and strong demonstrated experience in Python development
Experience in test data processing and comparison with FEA models
Experience in AI & Machine Learning integration would be a plus: implementation of AI and ML methodologies (such as surrogate models, metamodels or physics‑informed neural networks) to automate complex calculation methods, simplify repetitive tasks and optimise structural designs via OptiStruct
Advanced level of English language
