The Supervisor is accountable for the safe and efficient management of the total mail processing operation within an assigned area so that plant operating targets and service and production standards are met during the assigned shift. This includes Plant and Section operating targets, production standards, service, quality, and health and safety. The Supervisor provides guidance and leadership, and is responsible for all activities related to workforce management.
Responsibilities
- Develop plans to meet daily/weekly/monthly goals, processing strategies, and staffing requirements to meet service commitments. Continuously monitor staffing level and workload, adjusting as necessary during the shift.
- Promote and implement workplace safety and health programs. Coach employees on safe work practices, conduct inspections and investigations, and follow up on accident incidences or unsafe conditions.
- Direct, coach, and provide leadership to employees, fostering a respectful work environment. Administer human resources processes such as staffing, performance management, disability management, attendance management, and resolve staff issues, including disciplinary actions when required.
- Evaluate current operational methods and procedures, recommend improvements, and implement changes while communicating with support groups.
- Control and update data for reporting systems, analyze daily productivity reports, and share findings with the team.
- Communicate frequently with previous and post-shift supervisors, providing a brief recap of key activities performed and discussing anomalies.
- Respond promptly to equipment failures, make adjustments to meet scheduled deadlines, and prepare reports for Production Control and Reporting.
- Maintain employees’ time and leave records to ensure accurate and timely pay, produce related reports, and perform other administrative tasks associated with the role.
Qualifications
- Education: High School diploma or provincial equivalent (GED). Equivalent experience may be accepted in lieu of a High School diploma.
- Experience: Minimum 1 year managing a team OR minimum 2 years’ experience working within a unionized environment. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (understand major features of each application).
- Assets: Post‑secondary degree or diploma.
