IT Infrastructure Engineer L2
Contract length: 6 months (strong potential to extend an additional 6 months)
Location: King St West/ Dufferin St, near the Exhibition Place in downtown Toronto
Work model: Hybrid – 3 days onsite per week; occasional datacentre visits for vulnerability scanning and remediation
Interview process: HR screen → Hiring Manager → In‑person (Manager + Director)

Main Deliverables
- Remediate security vulnerabilities across Linux and virtualized environments
- Execute hypervisor migrations, consolidation, and modernization initiatives
- Stabilize, harden, and validate Linux compute, storage, backup, and DR platforms
- Improve monitoring, centralized logging, and operational reliability
Technical Stack
- Linux: RHEL, Ubuntu, Debian
- Virtualization: VMware (vSphere/ESXi), Proxmox/KVM (preferred), XCP‑ng (bonus)
- Automation & IaC: Ansible (required), Terraform, Bash, Python
- Databases: MySQL, PostgreSQL
- Storage: SAN / flash arrays, LUNs, fibre connectivity
- Monitoring & Logging: ELK / Elastic, Graylog, LibreNMS, Nagios, SNMP, OpenTelemetry
- Backup & DR: Veeam, Rubrik or similar enterprise backup tools
- Security: Vulnerability scanning platforms (e.g., Qualys), CIS/NIST hardening
Requirements
- 5–7 years of hands-on administration of production Linux server environments, including installation, patching, version upgrades, performance tuning, and troubleshooting
- Strong hands-on experience with VMware, including VM provisioning, clustering, lifecycle management, and resource optimization
- Proven experience delivering infrastructure migrations and modernization projects (OS upgrades, hypervisor migrations, storage moves, hardware refreshes)
- Direct experience remediating vulnerabilities identified through scanning tools by executing patching, upgrades, and hardening activities
- Hands-on experience patching, upgrading, and supporting MySQL and/or PostgreSQL databases, including acceptance testing
- Experience provisioning and managing block storage in virtualized environments (LUNs, SAN/flash arrays, fibre connectivity)
- Experience implementing or supporting high-availability and disaster-recovery solutions for virtualized workloads
- Practical experience with infrastructure‑as‑code and configuration management, with Ansible as a core requirement
- Strong technical documentation capability (runbooks, SOPs, diagrams)
Responsibilities
- Operate, harden, and maintain Linux compute and virtualization platforms in production and internal environments
- Perform OS, database, and hypervisor patching, upgrades, and performance tuning
- Execute hypervisor migration, consolidation, and cluster build‑out initiatives
- Remediate vulnerabilities by interpreting scan results and driving fixes to closure
- Provision and manage storage for virtualized workloads and databases
- Validate backups, perform restore testing, and support DR exercises
- Implement and maintain monitoring, alerting, and centralized logging solutions
- Troubleshoot incidents, perform root-cause analysis, and address technical debt
- Produce detailed technical documentation and escalate architectural decisions as required
