Sandton, South Africa | Healthtech | R70,000–R80,000 per month | Full-Time
Location: Compensation: R70,000–R80,000/month + ESOP
Reports to: Founder / CEO
Start Date: November 2026
Growth Path: Overview: Sataya is representing a well‑funded, early‑stage healthtech company based in Sandton, Johannesburg. We are seeking a Tech Lead with solid full stack engineering ability and a genuine affinity for AI-native development. This is the first engineering hire. The person stepping into the role will own the handover from the current third‑party development agency, lead the go‑live, and build the internal engineering capability from there. The business already has two live AI agents in production, and the ambition to develop further proprietary tooling is central to the product roadmap.
The right candidate is comfortable with ambiguity, takes full accountability, and has the startup temperament to operate with autonomy. Longer term, this is a genuine path to CTO as the team and platform grow.
Key Responsibilities 1) Platform Handover & Go‑Live
Take ownership of the codebase from the existing development agency and lead the go‑live from November 2026
Serve as the primary technical liaison between the business and all third‑party development partners
Establish internal engineering processes, SOPs, and documentation standards from the outset
2) Full Stack Engineering
Develop and iterate on product features in-house across the Angular/Node.js stack
Drive cloud infrastructure and CI/CD setup as part of the move‑to‑live process
Coordinate mobile app development with external developers, acting as the internal lead
3) AI & Agentic Development
Oversee and contribute to the company's two live AI agents: a patient‑facing Whats App care line agent and a clinical protocol development tool
Work alongside or ahead of a future agentic/LLM specialist hire
Support the longer‑term ambition to develop proprietary AI models
4) Internal Automation & Documentation
Identify and automate internal organisational workflows
Build the documentation and tooling infrastructure to reduce key‑person dependency
Grow into a leadership role as the engineering team expands, including hiring and managing developers
Act as the bridge between product vision and technical execution, with full autonomy and accountability
Ideal Candidate Profile
Solid full stack engineering ability in Angular and Node.js
Experience leading or co‑leading a technical function, or clear readiness to step into that accountability
AI‑native: hands‑on experience with agentic tooling, LLM integrations, or orchestration frameworks
Comfortable coordinating with and holding third‑party developers to delivery standards
Cloud experience (AWS preferred) and familiarity with CI/CD pipeline setup
Startup temperament: comfortable with ownership, ambiguity, and pace
Strong communication skills; this person sits between engineering and the founder
Industry background is open; healthtech experience is not required
