Job Summary

STAFFXPERT LLC is seeking a Senior Backend Java Engineer on behalf of our client in Phoenix, AZ. This role is ideal for an experienced backend engineer who thrives in large-scale, enterprise environments and enjoys building and supporting mission-critical customer communication platforms. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing, enhancing, and maintaining highly reliable applications that deliver real-time customer notifications and business-critical communications.

This position offers the opportunity to work within a complex, integration-heavy ecosystem, leveraging modern technologies such as Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, microservices, and cloud platforms to support high-volume customer engagement solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, maintain, and enhance scalable backend applications using Java and Spring Boot.
Build and support microservices and event-driven architectures in a high-availability environment.
Develop and maintain integrations with enterprise systems and external communication channels.
Troubleshoot and resolve complex production issues while ensuring system reliability and performance.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver technical solutions that meet business requirements.
Participate in application support activities, including incident management and on-call responsibilities.
Contribute to system modernization, performance optimization, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Ensure applications meet security, compliance, scalability, and operational standards.
Communicate technical concepts, design decisions, and problem-solving approaches effectively with stakeholders and team members.

Required Qualifications

6+ years of professional software development experience.
Strong hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot.
Experience designing and developing microservices-based applications.
Proficiency with Kafka or similar event-streaming technologies.
Experience working with cloud platforms, preferably Azure.
Proven ability to support, maintain, and troubleshoot production applications in enterprise environments.
Strong understanding of distributed systems, application reliability, and performance optimization.
Experience working within Agile development teams.
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working on notification, messaging, or customer communication platforms.
Background with SMS, email, push notifications, mobile wallet integrations, or real-time communication systems.
Experience with event-driven architectures and large-scale system integrations.
Familiarity with mobile application integrations and customer-facing digital experiences.
Experience in the airline, travel, transportation, or hospitality industry.
Exposure to Databricks, data lake technologies, Power BI, or CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions.
Understanding of regulatory and compliance-focused environments.
