Database Engineer - Microsoft SQL (12month maximum tenure contract)

Your New Role and Responsibilities

We are seeking a Database Engineer to join our Digital Modernisation Division, working in complex, multi-vendor technology environments within a supportive and collaborative team. This is a 12 month maximum tenure contract role.

This role requires strong technical expertise in Microsoft SQL engineering, combined with a thoughtful approach to problem solving, clear communication, and a genuine passion for continuous learning. You’ll play a meaningful role in supporting database administration, optimisation, and automation initiatives, helping to deliver reliable and scalable data platforms.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and maintain automated solutions supporting database operations including provisioning, deployment, monitoring, and maintenance

  • Administer Microsoft SQL Server environments to ensure availability, performance, security, and integrity of enterprise data platforms

  • Monitor and optimise database performance through query tuning, indexing strategies, and capacity planning

  • Implement automation within CI/CD pipelines to enable consistent and repeatable database deployments

  • Collaborate across engineering, data, and infrastructure teams to deliver integrated, reliable, and secure database solutions

About You and What You'll Bring

  • Experience working with Microsoft SQL Server, including database administration, query development, and performance optimisation

  • Strong SQL expertise, with the ability to write, troubleshoot, and optimise queries, stored procedures, and data processes

  • Solid understanding of database fundamentals such as data modelling, indexing, backup/recovery, and high availability

  • Experience with automation and scripting (e.g. PowerShell, Python, or Bash), including exposure to CI/CD and version control practices

  • Collaborative mindset with strong analytical and problem-solving skills across database and automation environments

This role does require the successful applicant to be an Australian Citizen and be able to gain and maintain a Baseline level security clearance.
