We are currently seeking a Full Stack Software Engineer to join us in providing production support. In this role, the work will include working with various squads to resolve technical issues and ensure software/hardware is kept current on Path to Green initiatives. The ideal candidate will combine their engineering and problem-solving background with strong interpersonal skills to ensure that the processes and systems are constantly evolving to address business needs in a fast-moving and collaborative environment. You will collaborate directly with an agile team consisting of Product Owners, Integration Analysts, and other stakeholders.
Position Responsibilities:
Design and deliver end-to-end SmartComm-based customer communication solutions that align with enterprise architecture standards and support high-volume document generation.
Develop and optimize SmartComm configurations to simplify template creation, reduce manual effort, and improve efficiency for business users.
Configure and manage SmartComm components to enhance document assembly rules, ensuring accurate generation of complex, multi-section communications in daily operations.
Build, maintain, and improve SmartComm data models using SmartComm Data Modeler, enabling consistent, reusable, and scalable data structures across products and channels.
Create and manage document templates, clauses, and layouts using SmartComm Draft Editor to ensure high-quality, compliant, and user-friendly outputs.
Collaborate with product owners, business analysts, designers, and developers to translate business requirements into scalable SmartComm solutions and integrations.
Define and implement robust integrations between SmartComm and core enterprise systems, ensuring seamless data flow and system interoperability.
Review existing SmartComm implementations to identify opportunities for performance optimization, improved maintainability, and stronger alignment with architectural standards.
Produce comprehensive technical design documents, configuration guides, and data mapping documentation to support development, maintenance, and knowledge sharing.
Establish and promote best practices for error handling, logging, monitoring, and overall solution reliability within SmartComm environments.
Partner with testing teams to define and validate test cases for templates, data models, and document assembly logic, ensuring high-quality and accurate outputs.
Diagnose and resolve production issues related to SmartComm templates, configurations, or data mappings; implement root-cause fixes to prevent recurrence.
Contribute reusable components, frameworks, and best practices to accelerate delivery and ensure consistency across SmartComm implementations.
Pair program with other specialists on the team.
Stay up to date on the latest development technologies and trends.
Use leading technologies such as GitHub Copilot to increase efficiency
Required Qualifications:
5+ years Full-Stack Engineer experience
Experience translating user requirements into software requirements
Ability to build moderately complex code to specifications and standards
Amenable to work on a night shift work schedule (8pm to 5am) and on a hybrid work set up of 3x a week in office reporting.
Must have experience in SQL.
Good interpersonal skills to convey issues and work to both technology and business customers
Experience with technologies such as: SmartComm, SmartComm Data Modeler is a must.
Experience with technologies such as: C#, .NET, JSON, XML is a must.
Hands-on RDBMS experience (data modeling, analysis, programming, stored procedures) is a must.
Experience working with modern software architectures and API-focused development and scripting languages
Experience working in an agile and DevSecOps environment
Familiarity with agile and DevOps principles, test-driven development, continuous integration, and other approaches to accelerate the delivery of new features
Understanding of software development lifecycle
Prioritizes efficient code production by using open-source frameworks and patterns
Demonstrates all core skills, and good interpersonal skills for the role
Good working and background knowledge of area of practice
Participates in functional demos applying new tech; designs own control structures
Writes clear, readable and maintainable code, takes ownership of the quality and usability of code
Understands how to find and reuse patterns and platforms in the Manulife ecosystem and the broader community •
Experience with technologies such as: SQL, Relational databases, Data Mapping, ETL concepts, Data Transformation
Experience with technologies such as: React, React Native, Node, Angular, JQuery
Experience with technologies such as: JavaScript, Python, Scala or Java
