Senior Java Developer / Tech Lead, contract position
Location: Toronto, ON
Number of positions: 2, 12-month initial contract
(Hybrid – 3 to 4 days per week onsite)

Roles and responsibilities
We are seeking a seasoned Senior Java/J2EE Developer Lead with over 10 years of progressive industry experience to join our team. In this role, you will analyze, design, and develop enterprise-level applications within a Scaled Agile environment. You will be responsible for leading daily agile routines, designing high-volume REST API platforms, and collaborating closely with product partners to onboard new functional requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Application Development: Design, build, and maintain robust, high-volume, and secure REST-based API platforms and enterprise applications using Core Java/J2EE.
- Agile Leadership: Lead daily Agile routines, participate in SCRUM sessions, and handle story estimations with minimal direction in a Scaled Agile environment.
- DevOps & Deployment: Utilize RedHat OpenShift, Docker, and Kubernetes for containerization and deployment, leveraging enterprise DevOps CI/CD and monitoring tools.
- Database Management: Write and optimize complex SQL queries and analyze query plans for peak performance.
- Collaboration & Quality: Partner with product teams to translate functional requirements into technical solutions; conduct and participate in rigorous code reviews.
Qualifications & Experience
Must-Have Requirements
- 10+ years of progressive experience in Java/J2EE development.
- 5-8 years of deep domain expertise in designing and building REST APIs .
- 3-5 years of hands‑on experience with RedHat OpenShift .
- 5+ years working within a Scaled Agile framework, with a proven history of leading daily routines.
- Strong proficiency with containerization tools (Docker and Kubernetes ).
- Expertise in SQL and database query optimization.
- Experience with version control tools like GitHub or Bitbucket .
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Engineering, CIS, MIS, or a related field.
Secondary / Preferred Skills
- Strong understanding of Application Architecture and Application Security best practices.
- This position requires working onsite 3 to 4 days per week at either our Toronto or Charlotte corporate offices.
