Senior Python Developer
About the Opportunity
Our client, a major European operator of critical energy infrastructure, is seeking an experienced Senior Python Developer to join its software engineering community.
You will contribute to the development and evolution of business-critical applications that support the monitoring, reliability, and operational performance of large-scale energy systems. Working alongside multidisciplinary teams, you will help design, build, and maintain resilient software solutions while driving engineering best practices across the organization.
The primary focus of this assignment is an internal monitoring platform responsible for tracking application health, executing synthetic and log-based monitoring checks, and ensuring timely alerting and incident response for production systems.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and optimize Python-based applications and services.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and define technical specifications.
- Support end-users and business stakeholders by addressing service requests and technical issues.
- Implement and promote best practices for code quality, testing, security, and CI/CD.
- Perform code reviews and mentor junior developers.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex production and application issues.
- Collaborate closely with DevOps, architecture, and data engineering teams.
- Contribute to the scalability, maintainability, and security of software solutions.
- Participate in modernization and refactoring initiatives involving legacy applications.
Required Skills & Experience
Technical Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in IT, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 6 years of software development experience.
- Minimum 3 years of professional Python development experience.
- Strong experience developing backend services using Python and modern frameworks such as FastAPI (or equivalent).
- Experience with Pydantic or similar data validation libraries.
- Experience with AsyncIO and asynchronous programming.
- Strong SQL knowledge.
- Experience working with relational databases such as:
- Microsoft SQL Server
- PostgreSQL
- Experience with RabbitMQ.
- Strong understanding of:
- Service-oriented architectures
- Event-driven architectures
- Software design patterns
- Data structures and algorithms
- Scalability and performance optimization
- Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD)
- Experience with automated testing frameworks (e.g., Selenium).
- Knowledge of IT security principles and secure software development practices.

- Professional proficiency in English is required.
- Good command of Dutch and/or French is required.
