At Sytac, we build high-performing engineering teams for leading organizations. We combine a pragmatic, people-first culture with technical craftsmanship, giving engineers autonomy in real production environments.
For one of our key clients in the Netherlands, we are looking for a Python Engineer – DataKitchen (Databricks / Python) who wants to build the platform that makes data engineers' lives measurably easier. Think of it as building an office suite for data, intuitive, powerful, and trusted by the people who use it every day.
You'll be hands-on from day one, actively developing and evolving a platform that enables data engineers to create data marts with minimal friction, publish models into Power BI, and operate at scale on Databricks.
What you'll do
- Build and evolve DataKitchen v2, giving users flexibility in how they design, operate, and scale their data workflows.
- Create a paved road for publishing DataKitchen-built data models directly into Power BI.
- Enhance the core engine with smart data processing techniques, robust validation, and performance optimisation, clean, tested, maintainable Python throughout.
- Extend and improve CI/CD pipelines built with GitHub Actions to support customer workflows and improve developer experience.
- Develop and maintain Terraform IaC modules for deploying user models and supporting assets on Databricks.
- Stay current with Databricks platform developments and the broader data landscape, you bring new capabilities to users before they have to ask.
- Maintain clear, accurate, and trustworthy documentation that users can rely on.
- Drive long-term product quality through proactive refactoring, strong customer onboarding, and continuous improvement.
What we're looking for
- Strong, hands-on Python skills with a solid grasp of OOP principles, you write clean, testable, maintainable code.
- Proven experience with Databricks in a production environment.
- Hands-on experience with Azure Cloud.
- Solid CI/CD experience, specifically with GitHub Actions.
- Experience with Terraform as Infrastructure as Code, this is a hard requirement.
- A platform mindset: you build for others, optimise for usability, and care about the developer experience as much as the technical output.
- Comfortable working in English; Dutch is not required.
Knockout criteria
- Terraform (IaC) experience is mandatory, Ansible experience is not relevant for this role.
