About the Role

I am hiring a Senior Backend Engineer to design, build and maintain scalable, secure server side systems for a major global airline, working with a fast-growing technology consultancy in triple‑digit growth.

This is a data and ML‑leaning backend role. Alongside building robust microservices and APIs, you will host and serve AI and ML models in production, integrate them into backend systems, and expose them through clean, performant endpoints. A strong focus on separation of concerns, security and performance is central to the role.

What You Will Be Doing

• Hosting, serving and scaling AI and ML models in production (MLOps).
• Integrating models into backend systems and building API endpoints for model interaction.
• Developing scalable microservices using REST, gRPC or GraphQL.
• Optimising database queries and schemas for performance and reliability.
• Implementing authentication and authorisation using industry standard practices.
• Troubleshooting production issues to keep services highly available.
• Writing unit and integration tests and maintaining clear technical documentation.
• Monitoring and optimising performance using observability tooling.

Essential Experience

• 8 plus years in backend development, with a strong focus on scalable, high performance systems.
• Python expertise, building backend services and APIs with FastAPI, Flask or similar.
• Solid grounding in microservices, event‑driven systems and service‑oriented design.
• In‑depth SQL (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB) knowledge.
• Extensive AWS experience, including database hosting, API management and serverless.
• Docker and container orchestration such as ECS.
• API security, including JWT, OAuth2, OpenID Connect and Entra ID.
• Git, GitHub Actions and CI/CD pipelines, plus performance tuning and scalability techniques.
• Right to work in Spain as a full‑time employee, no sponsorship available.

Nice to Have

• Message brokers such as Kafka or AWS SQS.
• Infrastructure as code with Terraform or CloudFormation.
• Observability tooling such as CloudWatch or Datadog.
• Serverless and event‑driven paradigms, e.G., AWS Lambda.
• Agile and Scrum ways of working.
• AWS certifications.
