The Opportunity

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Python Software Engineer who enjoys building scalable, production‑quality software rather than short‑term scripting solutions. This position is ideal for someone with a strong software engineering mindset who takes pride in writing clean, maintainable, and well‑tested code.

Working closely with software developers, cloud engineers and data specialists, you will help transform ideas and prototypes into reliable production systems while contributing to the ongoing improvement of engineering standards, development processes and platform architecture.

You’ll also play an important role in modernising existing applications, reducing technical debt, improving software quality and supporting best engineering practices across multiple teams.

Key Responsibilities Design, develop and maintain production‑grade Python applications and cloud services. Convert proof‑of‑concept solutions into scalable, maintainable software suitable for production environments. Improve software quality through automated testing, code reviews and engineering best practices. Help modernise existing platforms by reducing technical debt and improving application architecture. Contribute to technical design decisions, deployment strategies and overall platform improvements. Collaborate with software engineers, cloud teams and data specialists to deliver high‑quality solutions. Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, automation processes and development tooling. Work closely with infrastructure teams to improve application performance, reliability and scalability. Communicate technical risks, project updates and implementation plans effectively with stakeholders. Mentor developers, share technical knowledge and promote Python best practices across the wider engineering team. Skills & Experience Minimum 5 years’ commercial experience developing production‑level applications using Python. Strong understanding of software engineering principles, object‑oriented programming and clean code practices. Experience with automated testing, version control, code reviews and CI/CD pipelines. Knowledge of modern Python tooling, dependency management, packaging and development workflows. Experience working within cloud‑based environments, ideally Microsoft Azure or similar platforms. Strong debugging, troubleshooting and performance optimisation skills. Ability to work independently while managing technical delivery from design through to deployment. Comfortable collaborating with cross‑functional engineering teams, including data and analytics professionals. Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly. Nice to Have Experience with Fast API or other modern Python web frameworks. Exposure to Databricks, Apache Spark or large‑scale data processing platforms. Knowledge of containerisation technologies such as Docker. Experience working with AI frameworks, machine learning platforms or intelligent automation solutions. Familiarity with modern Python development tools including type checking, linting and formatting utilities. Experience with Azure Dev Ops or similar CI/CD platforms. Understanding of software architecture, design patterns and scalable system design. Exposure to Rust or an interest in learning additional programming languages.
