At Best Practice Software, our vision is communities connected with care. We’re achieving this through our mission to build a culture people love, where:
we value customers,
we work together for success,
we are accountable for our actions,
we innovate for the future, and
we celebrate diversity and inclusion.
If you share our vision and values, please consider this exciting career opportunity to join our growing team in Brisbane or Bundaberg, Queensland.
You’re unique, and we value that.
Communities connected with care
That’s our vision. We make the clinical and practice management software that over 7000 Australian Practices run on, used every working day by GPs, Practice Managers, Nurses, Allied Health Providers and Administrative Staff.
We’re looking for a Full Stack Software Developer to help build our cloud platform, and to build it to a standard a clinician can rely.
About the role
This is a hands-on engineering role across the full stack of our cloud product. .NET 8 on the back end, React on the front, SQL Server underneath, packaged as Docker images and deployed to Kubernetes on Azure. You’ll take features from refinement through to production, and you’ll help shape how they get designed.
You’ll work in a cross-functional team alongside UX Designers, Product Owners, QA and our Clinical Safety Advisors, reporting to a Product Lead.
As a Software Developer - Full Stack, we’ll call on your unique talents, skills, expertise, and experience to:
Build across the full stack
Deliver features end-to-end: React components on the front, .NET 8 services behind them, SQL Server underneath;
Build UI with React and FluentUI so the product stays consistent across the suite;
Push live updates to the client with SignalR, and move integration events through Azure Event Hubs;
Choose the right store for the job across SQL Server and Azure Storage Accounts.
Ship it
Package back end and front end as Docker images;
Deploy to Kubernetes with Helm through Azure Pipelines;
Work with infrastructure as code in Terraform. You don’t need to arrive knowing it.
Prove it works
Write automated unit, integration and system tests, and keep them green in CI/CD;
Use Seq and Azure Monitor to see how your code behaves in production, then fix what you find;
Apply secure coding and privacy by design practices to health data, and build to our accessibility and UX standards.
Work as part of the team
Partner with Product Owners, UX Designers and Clinical Safety Advisors to turn requirements into something buildable;
Review your teammates’ code, and take feedback on your own;
Break work down into pieces that can ship, and flag problems early.
We believe our ideal applicant will demonstrate the following attributes:
Essential
Commercial full-stack development experience, typically three years or more;
Strong C# and modern .NET. We’re on .NET 8+;
Solid React, and comfort with the Node.js tooling around it;
SQL Server: schema design, and the ability to write and read your own queries;
Practical Docker experience. You can write a Dockerfile, run a local stack, and work out why a container won’t start;
Automated testing and CI/CD as everyday habits;
Australian work rights.
Highly desirable
Kubernetes and Helm, or another container orchestration platform in production;
Terraform, or infrastructure as code more broadly;
Azure services in production, particularly Storage Accounts, Event Hubs and Azure Monitor;
SignalR or other real-time client messaging;
Medical software, e-health or another regulated field. FHIR and Australian primary healthcare experience are a big plus;
Mentoring less experienced developers.
