Global Human Resources Technology provides the technology and tools for Scotiabank to attract, hire, retain, invest in, compensate, and reward its workforce globally. The team builds and supports world class cloud solutions and applications, data analytics, and services.

The Role

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and supporting enterprise grade applications and microservices that power critical HR Technology, Banking, and Enterprise Platform solutions.

This is a hands on engineering role with ownership across the full software development lifecycle, from solution design and development through testing, deployment, and production support. You will work closely with architecture, product, engineering, and business teams to deliver secure, scalable, resilient, and high performing applications that align with enterprise technology standards and best practices. Based on the source role, this position emphasizes design ownership, scalability, governance, and enterprise quality delivery.

Is this role right for you? In this role, you will:

• Design, develop, test, and maintain enterprise applications, microservices, and REST APIs using Java and Spring technologies.
• Build scalable, cloud native solutions on Azure and GCP, leveraging modern architecture and engineering best practices.
• Contribute to application architecture, technical design, and implementation while ensuring alignment with enterprise standards.
• Collaborate with architects, product owners, business stakeholders, and engineering teams to deliver high quality technical solutions.
• Develop secure, maintainable, and high performing code, supported by automated unit, integration, and quality testing practices.
• Design and optimize SQL databases, data models, and data access patterns to support scalable and reliable applications.
• Implement CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code practices using GitHub and Terraform to automate software delivery and cloud deployments.
• Monitor, support, and continuously improve production applications using Dynatrace, SonarQube, code reviews, incident management, and operational excellence practices.

What You Will Bring to Succeed

• Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• 4+ years of experience designing, developing, and delivering enterprise applications using Java, Spring Boot, and modern software engineering practices.
• Strong experience building microservices, REST APIs, and distributed applications using Spring Cloud and service-oriented architecture principles.
• Hands on experience developing and deploying cloud native applications on Azure and/or GCP, with Kubernetes experience considered an asset.
• Strong SQL and relational database expertise, including data modeling, database design, performance tuning, and query optimization.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code, automated testing frameworks, CI/CD practices, and software quality engineering methodologies.
• Proficiency with enterprise development and operational tools including GitHub, SonarQube, Dynatrace, and related software delivery platforms.
• Strong understanding of application architecture, object-oriented design, security and secure coding practices, with excellent analytical, communication, presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
