Young Men United Program Coordinator
United Way of Central Maryland (UWCM) is seeking an experienced, passionate and compassionate individual to provide case management and general administrative services to our Young Men United youth participants and their families. Successful candidates will demonstrate experience working with under-resourced youth and families in a multi-generational approach and providing supports over a sustained period of time.
Young Men United Overview
United Way of Central Maryland's Young Men United (YMU) program is an innovative approach designed to support young men of color with their educational and vocational dreams complete high school, pursue post-secondary education (college/training/certification) and embark on fulfilling careers while closing ongoing education and earning gaps. While in high school, YMU will help students develop life skills and enhance their learning by providing academic enrichment and educational field trips, as well as wraparound services to students and families to support their educational and economic goals. Support will continue for students (and their families) as they enter and complete post-secondary education. Integral to this strategy, UWCM will partner with other non-profits that will provide mentorship, college and career counseling and scholastic support. - Through these partners, ensure YMU provides customized, long-term holistic support for students and their families, including:
- Exposure to and awareness of different industries, careers and post-secondary pathways
- College and career guidance (academic program research, application, and financial aid guidance)
- Access to and guidance on training/certification programs and trade education opportunities
- Academic support, including technology resources and training
- Mentorships, internships, job shadowing, and paid part-time employment
- Financial education and support for students and families
- Connection to supportive resources like housing, food, and mental health support for students and families
POSITION SUMMARY STATEMENT:
The YMU Program Coordinator is responsible for the overall implementation of parent, family, and community engagement support services for YMU families and students. The YMU Engagement Coordinator will report to the Manager, Young Men United, and work closely with UWCM and program partner staff to share information and coordinate efforts to best support the needs of YMU participants and their families. This includes coordinating and implementing efforts to develop and implement a success plan with each student & family based on their needs and aspirations and working with them to make regular progress. This position requires flexibility in working with students and families individually and collectively at school-sites, family homes, community sites and other locations as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (included but not limited to):
70% Student and Family Engagement
- Responsible for identifying service needs of YMU participants and family members and providing support, community outreach and comprehensive case management services, referrals or resources to help each family achieve their goals.
- Engage YMU program partners, as appropriate, for information sharing and program delivery related to student and family progress and at times coordinate meetings with all parties to best serve students and their families.
- Provide support services to families and students including intake assessment, goal setting, long-term care plan development, progress monitoring, financial literacy, advocacy, and referrals and connect families with appropriate community resources.
- Meet regularly with students and families to monitor progress and modify plans as necessary. Conduct visits at school, home and agreed upon community locations and assist families in obtaining services ensuring they can access the provided resources.
- Provide cultural and trauma responsive services.
20% Program Administration
- Responsible for documentation of student, family and partner plans, referrals, communications, etc. in Apricot and other platforms.
- Coordinate collection of all student and family facing program documentation.
- Assist with reporting on program performance measurements and other relevant data.
- Participate in the development and implementation of yearly goals in conjunction with the program management team and assist with fundraising efforts for programming, as needed.
- Conduct regular follow-up with agencies as appropriate to document use/success of referrals.
5% Communication
- Responsible for communicating student, family and program trends to Manager.
- Uplift need to communicate with partners or other stakeholders to Manager.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS (required education, years of experience, skills, and abilities):
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 2 years' experience providing case management or mentoring services to under-resourced youth and families.
- Demonstrated cultural competence and responsiveness.
- Demonstrated computer skills (proficiency in Microsoft Office with an emphasis in Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint).
- Demonstrated commitment to service and the well-being of students, families and communities.
- Experience providing case management services to multiple generations, including an adolescent population.
Successful Applicant Will:
- Possess excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills that will enable you to establish rapport and build trust quickly at all levels.
- Exhibit a willingness to listen and learn with a customer service orientation.
- Have familiarity with Baltimore neighborhoods and community challenges, and previous experience working with historically marginalized racial and ethnic populations (Black/African American, Hispanic/Latinx, Indigenous) and under-resourced communities.
- Demonstrate a passion for positive youth development and working with organizations who directly serve young people.
- Possess integrity; a commitment to ethical conduct and UWCM's mission.
- Demonstrate a commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
- Be able to travel to and from different locations and sites in the greater Baltimore area.
- Be available for some evening and weekend work.
- Be able to successfully pass a background check.
- Bilingual skills a plus (Spanish preferred).
INTERACTION (Internal and External):
Internal: Interacts with UWCM staff from all departments and levels on a regular basis.
External: Interacts with other non-profits, including community organizations and Y MU program partners and prospective program partners, as well as government agencies, school districts, school staff at individual schools, YMU participants/prospective participants and their families.
