Salt is currently hiring a Java Backend Developer for a client of ours in Amsterdam.
This is a freelance role (kvk/zzp required) and is for 6 months.
We are looking for a Software Engineer II with strong backend development experience to build and operate scalable services and APIs. The role requires solid Java fundamentals, experience with AWS cloud services, and hands-on knowledge of DynamoDB. Experience with Perl is a plus.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain backend services and APIs.
- Write clean, maintainable, and well-tested code.
- Participate in system design, code reviews, and technical discussions.
- Own services in production, including monitoring, troubleshooting, and incident resolution.
- Contribute to CI/CD, automation, and operational excellence.
- Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and stakeholders to deliver business solutions.
Requirements
- 3–5 years of software engineering experience.
- Strong Java backend development skills.
- Experience building REST APIs and distributed systems.
- Hands-on experience with AWS and DynamoDB.
- Understanding of software design, testing, and CI/CD practices.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Perl.
- Experience with observability, monitoring, and distributed tracing.
- Experience working with high-scale, customer-facing systems.
This role may require participation in an on-call rotation.
