Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Senior Mainframe Developer with strong expertise in COBOL-based application development, maintenance, and production support. The ideal candidate will possess deep technical knowledge of IBM mainframe technologies and demonstrate the ability to troubleshoot complex production issues, optimize system performance, and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, enhance, and maintain enterprise mainframe applications using COBOL II, JCL, CICS, and related IBM technologies.
  • Develop, support, and maintain both online and batch processing applications in a mainframe environment.
  • Work extensively with VSAM files for data storage, retrieval, maintenance, and performance optimization.
  • Create, modify, and maintain screen maps using SDF II (COBOL Maps).
  • Perform debugging and issue resolution using CEDF (CICS Debug Utility) and IBM Debugging Utility.
  • Utilize File Manager/FileAid tools for testing, data validation, troubleshooting, and production support.
  • Analyze application performance and implement system-level tuning and optimization strategies.
  • Support system security, stability, compliance, and operational reliability.
  • Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve production incidents and technical issues within established SLAs.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders, business analysts, QA teams, and developers to deliver high-quality software solutions.
  • Prepare technical documentation, program specifications, and support documentation.
  • Participate in peer code reviews and knowledge-sharing sessions.
  • Support application enhancements, maintenance releases, and modernization initiatives.
  • Perform root cause analysis for recurring production issues and recommend long-term solutions.
  • Assist with application deployment, migration, testing, and release management activities.
  • Ensure adherence to SDLC standards, coding best practices, and organizational development guidelines.
Required Skills
  • Strong expertise in COBOL II, JCL, CICS, and IBM Mainframe technologies.
  • Hands-on experience with VSAM files.
  • Experience creating and maintaining SDF II (COBOL Maps).
  • Strong experience with CEDF (CICS Debug Utility).
  • Experience using File Manager and/or FileAid tools.
  • Hands-on experience with IBM Debugging Utility.
  • Experience with Easytrieve.
  • Strong knowledge of system-level debugging, performance tuning, and application optimization.
  • Understanding of system security, compliance, and operational best practices.
  • Experience supporting large-scale enterprise mainframe applications.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with production support, incident management, and root cause analysis.
  • Knowledge of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) methodologies.
  • Experience with batch processing and online transaction processing systems.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional Agile and traditional development environments.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience in Mainframe Development and Support.
  • Experience supporting mission-critical enterprise applications.
  • Familiarity with application modernization initiatives involving legacy systems.
  • Experience with performance monitoring and capacity planning.
  • Knowledge of change management, release management, and DevOps practices for mainframe environments.
